What To Do In Case Of An Injury

Many injured persons mistakenly believe that insurance companies act in their best interest.  They don’t.

There’s no such thing as a simple claim.  Insurance companies will require that you complete numerous reports, forms, and other paperwork—and may even request a recorded statement—all of which may later be used against you.  Insurance companies often act quickly to deny your claim or encourage you to settle for an unreasonably low amount before you have time to talk with a lawyer.  It is crucial that your insurance claim is handled properly and is evaluated in your best interest.

At Kauffman Law Firm, we have been handling insurance claims for injured persons and their families for over 30 years.  Prompt, proper evaluation, and treatment of your injuries is critical. Early investigation must be completed while the evidence is still fresh.  We will work for your best interests.

We have found that the following are the best practices in case of injury:

1. Report the incident to the police immediately.

2. Get proper medical evaluation and treatment for your injuries immediately.

3. Use our form to record important information as soon as possible:

Make, model, color, and insurance company/policy numbers of all vehicles involved.

Name, address, and phone number of the other driver and/or any witnesses.

Photographs of vehicle damage including damage to the interior and undercarriage.

Photographs of your injuries, including bruises, cuts, and other visible injuries.

4. Kauffman Law Firm will report the incident and your injuries to your insurance

company in writing.  It is important that you provide complete and accurate

information—or your claim may be denied.

We will handle the insurance paperwork including

claim forms, reports, and requests for statements for you.

Use our form to record important information as soon as possible.

5. Remember that everything you say may be used against you, including what you tell

your doctors, the police officers, and any insurance company.  You are not required

to provide a written or recorded statement to any insurance company.

6. Save everything related to your claim and injuries.

7. Within 10 days of any motor vehicle accident involving damages over $1,000 to

your vehicle, fill out an Accident Report from the Department of Public Safety.

This form can be located at:

     www.dps.state.mn.us/dvs.

8. Do not discuss anything related to your accident or your injuries on social media.

9. We offer a free consultation, so you have nothing to lose by contacting us first.

Tell us about your injury so that we may answer your questions and guide you through this difficult time.  For a free consultation:
